With nature as the primary teacher, Stanton Home residents learn responsibility through the law of the land and teamwork. Stanton Home Garden is an existing garden and greenhouse located directly on our property. In the Stanton Garden the residents learn to prepare and plant garden beds, turning soil when needed, raking beds flat, planting seeds and other such needs to make a garden grow. Throughout the season the residents reap the benefits by harvesting flowers for bouquets, herbs and calendula blossoms for herbal salve, marigold blossoms for dyeing, vegetables daily for kitchen use, cabbage for sauerkraut, basil for pesto and tomatoes for sauce. All residents benefit from the purpose, peace and confidence that the gardening program nurtures. This programming integrates residents into society, and encourages the development of life skills.
